Cadillac’s V-series high-performance lineup is led by the dynamically excellent and totally brutish 2023 CT5-V Blackwing, which is our current favorite among today’s sports sedans. A supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine pumps out a stout 668 horsepower and is paired with a six-speed manual transmission. That combination is good enough for a 3.6-second rush to 60 mph in our testing; a 10-speed automatic is available, too, but we implore you to consider the stick. The car’s handling is just as entertaining as its explosive acceleration, and when pushed, the CT5-V Blackwing is a deft partner for experienced drivers. It faces off against heady competition such as the BMW M5 and the Mercedes-AMG E63, both of which offer more name recognition, but the CT5-V Blackwing ultimately comes out on top thanks to its relatively low price and its expertly tuned chassis.

Inside the CT5-V Blackwing, you take the lead. The driver-focused cockpit strikes a precise balance between high-end luxury and high-adrenaline performance. Every detail, from carbon-fiber accents to premium materials to ergonomic high-performance sport seats, is designed with one goal in mind—to make every drive an exhilarating experience.

Stronger and lighter than traditional cast aluminum wheels, the V-Series Blackwing features forged aluminum wheels paired with summer-only, high-performance, low-profile tires. These aluminum wheels are stiffer than previous Cadillac generations, resulting in reduced road noise and improved track performance. A distinct laser-etched “V” design detail adds an element of visual stopping power—proving that V-Series Blackwing thrills while in motion and at rest.

There will, of course, be future V-Series beasts to emerge from Caddy’s doors; in a decade, we’ll likely be staring at the likes of a 1,000-horsepower all-wheel-drive EV super-sedan that takes the best bits from the electric C9 Corvette and bears a goofy name like “Speedtastiq.” But the engagement, the visceral thrill, the rush of a rear-wheel-drive, stick-shifted, V8-powered performance car that doubles as family transport will be gone.

So with that said, well, here’s hoping I’ll have another chance to drive the CT5-V Blackwing in better weather, on better tires. Whaddya say, Cadillac?
