1954 MG TF 1250cc

The MG T-Type is a series of body-on-frame open two-seater sports cars that were produced by MG from 1936 to 1955. The series included the MG TAMG TBMG TCMG TD, and MG TF Midget models. The last of these models, the TF, was replaced by the MGA. Although the design was similar to contemporary cars of the 1930s, it came to be considered outdated by the 1950s.

The TF name was reinstated in 2002 on the mid-engined MG TF sports car.

The MG TF was the last MG model based on the pre-war models. Like the MG TA, TC and TD models most of the cars were sold in the USA.

Chassis and body of the MG TF were similar to the TD with some changes:

The TF became larger doors, integrated headlamps to the wings, and a more slanted radiator. Other changes were found in the interior: two separate seats, a new dashboard with new clocks. Technically everything still matched the MG TD, so the car was fitted with  rack and pinion steering-gear, coil springs (instead of the leaf springs) and an independent wheel suspension in the front.

This is a 1954 MG TF 1250 has paint in colour Old English Red, black leather interior and chrome wire wheels, a beautiful combination on this English Roadster. The black leather seats are firm and supportive, and free of rips, tears and other damage. Just as importantly, they look terrific, being only gently creased and lightly patinated.

This MG TF has the matching numbers 1250 CC, 4 cyl, 58 HP engine and 4 speed manual gearbox. The car also has a chrome luggagerack and a black tonneau cover. So a very beautiful, well maintained MG TF Roadster, ready for driving.

The TF is a comfortable little car, the often conflicting demands of roadholding and ride cleverly balanced, as snug as can be in inclement weather with its well fitting hood and sidescreens. A fold-flat windscreen gives the option of exhilarating 1930’s style summer’s day motoring. Its lively performance and comparative rarity have ensured a continuing enthusiasm for the type.
