When Henry Ford turned the Lizzie into a Lady with the all-new 1928 Model A, the new pickup truck wasn’t all new.
The cabin was nearly identical to the previous Model T version. All Model A pickups built through August 1928 had open roadster cabs, as the Ford AA truck production line used all the new closed cabs on hand. Both types of cabs were available for pickups in 1929.
The non-perforated version of hardboard with a thin coat of black spray makes up the door panels. An older red leather bench stretches across the small cab. In the center of the green painted metal dash is the Ford “mask” style gauge cluster, and to its stage left is the original steering wheel which has been wrapped with a tape like product. On the floor is a simple rubber floor mat that is fairly clean.
This truck drives like a truck! No power steering, power brakes, and simple suspension, which is part of its charm, and is certainly not meant to be negative. Overall good condition, and considering it sat for a while, it probably could use a fresh tank of gas. An early farm truck by early Ford Manufacturing, now offered here in all its patina glory at Classic Auto Mall.
The roadster pickup’s body is finished in dark red with black fenders, splash aprons and a proper black commercial radiator shell with an accessory Messko thermometer. A left-side spare tire and wheel complete the look. A chrome-plated, dual-bar front bumper protects the front, while a black top is in place to protect occupants from the weather. This roadster pickup would be a great addition to any early Ford collection, show or advertising for a business.
