The production period of the Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spyder started in 1960 and ended early 1963, in that time frame 54 Spyders were built. The design was by Scaglietti and was close to “TdF” Berlinetta but on a shorter wheelbase, it was available in street version in steel or as competition version in alloy. The majority were the more attractive looking covered headlight version and all were built by Scaglietti.
The early cars had a 3.0 litre 128F type engine delivering 280bhp at 7.000 rpm, the later once had 168/61 type engines and 539 and 539/61 type chassis. Some of the late versions received a engine of type 168 which was used in the SWB Version, which delivered in a range 230 bhp to 282 bhp.
2987GT was a 250 GT SWB California Spyder, completed in October 1961, it was a covered headlight alloy version, it was once owned by “King of Water Beds” Bruce Lavachek, then by Albert Obrist.
