1972 Ford Ranchero
The Ford Ranchero is a coupe utility that was produced by Ford between 1957 and 1979. Unlike a standard pickup truck, the Ranchero was adapted from a two-door station wagon platform that integrated the cab and cargo bed into the body. A total of 508,355 units were produced during the model’s production run. Over its lifespan it was variously derived from full-sized, compact, and intermediate automobiles sold by Ford for the North American market.
During the 1970s, the Ranchero name was used in the South African market for a rebadged Australian Ford Falcon utility. Shipped from Australia in complete knock down (CKD) form, these vehicles were assembled in South Africa at Ford’s plant in Port Elizabeth. In Argentina, a utility version of the locally produced Ford Falcon was also called Ranchero.
A beautiful example of this all original and stock unrestored original southern California 1972 Ford Ranchero GT Pick Up with the highly desirable factory option upgraded 351 c.i. (5.8 L) V8 engine, the optional heavy duty C6 automatic transmission for greater torque (and a transmission widely used in Ford trucks and cars with the larger engines and also very popular in the sport of drag racing due to its reputation of being nearly indestructible), 3:00:1 conventional differential axle, air conditioning equipment, power brakes, fairly new tires.
The Torino-based Ranchero was redesigned for 1972. This example was twice repainted in its original Silver Glow Metallic. The hood is equipped with a factory scoop. Cosmetic blemishes include uneven filler on the roof and A-pillars as well as bubbles in the rear quarters. Factory bumper guards and GT badges have been removed, and a new rocker stripe kit is included.
Appears the be very solid. Floors, rockers, frame rails are clean. Has the optional competition suspension which includes sway bars. In front it has disc brakes. Looking at the motor even from the bottom, it looks fresh. The original 4-speed also looks fresh, shifts smooth. Has a recent exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers. Has high torque starter, new shocks, e-brake assembly is complete, front end components look good.
This is one very rare unrestored and mostly all original example of this increasingly collectible and desirable 1972 year of the legendary Ford Ranchero and the desirable and sporty GT model with factory hood scoop to boot! An original southern California truck.
