1929 DeSoto Model K Roadster
DeSoto (sometimes De Soto) was an American automobile marque that was manufactured and marketed by the DeSoto division of Chrysler Corporation from 1928 to the 1961 model year. More than two million passenger cars and trucks bore the DeSoto brand in North American markets during its existence.
This rare De Soto Series K “Dickey Seat” Roadster is in great condition and now shows a wonderful patina. The paint, trim, chrome, wheels and tyres, hood and side curtains and engine compartment all present well, it runs quietly and drives very well.
This 1929 DeSoto Model K roadster is finished in yellow and black over a brown interior. Power is from a 175ci inline-six paired with a three-speed manual transmission.
The tan soft top features a wood frame and glass rear window. The 19″ wood-spoke artillery wheels are mounted with Lester wide-whitewall tires. Braking is handled by mechanical drums at all four corners.
Inside, brown upholstery covers the bench seat, door panels, and kick panels. A storage pouch is integrated in the driver’s door panel, and a textured rubber mat lines the floor. The rumble seat features matching upholstery and floor lining for the rear passengers. The four-spoke steering wheel is covered in a perforated wrap, and the painted dashboard contains an instrument panel with a barrel-type speedometer and readouts for fuel level, amperage, and oil pressure. A Stewart-Warner temperature gauge is installed ahead of the steering wheel.
In conclusion, the first DeSoto made history by being one of Chrysler’s lowest priced automobiles. Over more than 30 years, DeSoto had a great reputation and made the world’s lowest-priced straight eight car and now lives on in our American automotive history books.
