1958 Chevrolet Cameo Pickup
The 1958 Chevrolet Cameo pickup was the last of the costly Cameo line, making it a rare find today.
Starting in 1958, Chevrolet trucks adopted a new numbering system, with 30 for light-duty vehicles, 40-50-60 for medium-duty, and 70-80-90-100 for heavy-duty. In the 30 series, also known as the “Apache” line, Chevrolet continued to build the Cameo Carrier, which had been introduced in 1955.
Though the Cameo had set truck styling history with its smooth, car-like lines, it cost a premium over other trucks and had never sold well. In February 1958, it was replaced by all-new Fleetside bodies, with “jet-pod” sculpturing along the cargo bed.
The engine compartment is nicely detailed. In this 1958 Chevrolet Cameo Pickup was made to upgrade the factory 283 V8 engine with a 327 V8. These engines look the same, but the 327 has a lot more horsepower, which makes driving so much more enjoyable. The engine has the original-style air cleaner with a Rochester 4-jet carburetor. It has an AC Delco 12-volt alternator and is cooled by a Harrison radiator. The engine sounds great out of the slightly custom exhaust system.
The engine is coupled to a 3-speed manual transmission. The undercarriage is also nicely detailed.
The dark gray and silver interior complements the exterior perfectly. This interior is rich and classy. Everything in the interior is in working order.
The body is straight with nice panel fitment throughout. The yellow and black paint is virtually flawless and has been detailed nicely. The chromework throughout is stunning. The truck sits on Firestone Deluxe Champion 6.70 15″ whitewall tires. The inside of the bed was painted black and all new wood was added. A custom set of bed rails were added for the extra touch.
One of the very last of the historic Task Force generation of Chevrolet light trucks, this 1958 Cameo pickup promises years of enjoyment for the vintage pickup enthusiast looking for that “Just Right” ride.
