1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Twister Special
This 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 was built in October 1969 and is finished in orange with black accents over a black interior.
Power comes from a replacement 351ci Cleveland V8 and is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. Features include a hood scoop, a rear wing, Ford Racing engine dress-up parts, and a chrome-finished export brace.
The exterior is finished in period-style Grabber Orange with black Mach 1 accent stripes and was refinished under previous ownership. Additional features include a front lip, a hood scoop, twist-lock hood latches, and a rear wing.
Magnum 500 14″ wheels wear Mustang center caps and staggered BFGoodrich Radial T/A raised-white-letter tires. Mach 1 Mustangs came new with power steering and front disc brakes.
The cabin features black vinyl upholstery with high-back front bucket seats and a Sport Deck rear bench. Wood veneer trim is present on the console, dashboard, and door panels. The low-pile carpeting has been fitted with matching floor mats, and additional equipment includes a Hurst shifter as well as an AM radio with an eight-track player.
This Mustang is mostly collectible for its Super Cobra Jet engine, but being a relatively rare “Twister Special” (marketed specifically to Kansas City) does make it a little more interesting.
Sporting the specific Grabber Orange hue, the machine was caught on camera during what appears to be a Mustang meet supported by or at least involving Ford dealers.
