1978 Ferrari 308 GTB
The Ferrari 308 GTB berlinetta and targa topped 308 GTS are V8 mid-engined, two-seater sports cars manufactured by the Italian company Ferrari from 1975 to 1985. The 308 replaced the Dino 246 GT and GTS in 1975 and was updated as the 328 GTB/GTS in 1985. The similar 208 GTB and GTS were equipped with a smaller, initially naturally aspirated and later turbocharged, two-litre engine, and were sold mainly in Italy.
This 1978 Ferrari 308 GTB is finished in silver over black leather upholstery, and power comes from a 2.9-liter quad-cam V8 with four Weber carburetors paired with a five-speed manual transaxle.
The Pininfarina-designed steel bodywork is finished in Grigio Chiaro and features US-market bumpers and lighting, quadruple exhaust outlets, a vented engine cover, a retractable antenna, a Vitaloni Californian driver-side mirror, and pop-up headlights.
The 14″ Cromodora alloy wheels wear prancing horse center caps and are mounted with 205/70 Michelin XWX tires. A matching spare wheel and tire are mounted in the front trunk. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes.
The cabin features bucket seats trimmed in black leather along with a color-matching dashboard, carpets, and door panels. Equipment includes power windows, air conditioning, a Blaupunkt cassette player, and a gated shifter. The leather-wrapped MOMO steering wheel fronts Veglia Borletti instrumentation consisting of a 180-mph speedometer, a 10k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for oil pressure, fuel level, and water temperature.
The 308’s body was designed by Pininfarina’s Leonardo Fioravanti, who had been responsible for some of Ferrari’s most celebrated shapes to date such as the Daytona, the Dino and the Berlinetta Boxer. The 308 used elements of these shapes to create something very much in contrast with the angular Bertone-designed GT4.
