1978 Datsun 620 Deluxe King Cab

The Datsun Truck is a compact pickup truck made by Nissan in Japan from 1955 through 1997. It was originally sold under the Datsun brand, but this was switched to Nissan in 1983. It was replaced in 1997 by the Frontier and Navara. In Japan, it was sold only in Nissan Bluebird Store locations.

This sweet little 1978 Datsun 620 Pickup seems to fall into the former category. When you look at the overall condition of this 1978 Datsun 620 Deluxe Pickup, it’s easy to believe that it has been squirreled away in hiding for the last 44 years.

The cabin is trimmed in blue with black plastics. Was added cloth inserts to the factory vinyl seats to help cope with the Arizona heat, though he has recently reupholstered the seats with plaid seating surfaces and vinyl backs and sides. The King Cab afforded several inches of additional room to the back of the cab, giving both storage and additional space for taller drivers. The truck is also equipped with a factory air conditioning system, though the clutch is not functional and the system does not engage.

The truck is powered by a 2.0-liter L20B inline-four backed by a 4-speed manual transmission and is equipped with factory air conditioning.

King Cab was called “Datsun Truck” in Japan and “Datsun Pickup” in USA. It was the first light truck to offer an extra-cab variation, from 1976. 620 was marketed as “Lil’ Hustler” in North America.
