1973 Pontiac Grand Safari

The Pontiac Grand Safari was Pontiac’s top-of-the-line full-size station wagon offered from 1971 to 1978. The Grand Safari used the grille and interior trim of the Bonneville and Grand Ville passenger car series, and most (but not all) examples were trimmed with woodgrain paneling on the sides and tailgate.

This 1973 Pontiac Grand Safari is a nine-passenger station wagon that was sold new by Stevens Pontiac-GMC of Los Gatos, California, in June 1973. The car is powered by a 455ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission and is finished in Valencia Gold over beige vinyl. It features woodgrain exterior paneling, powered accessories, third row seating.

Features include a woodgrain appliqué along the body sides and tailgate, body-color side mirrors, a chrome luggage rack, and an electrically operated tailgate that retracts into the body.

The 15″ Rally II wheels are mounted with 225/70 BFGoodrich white-letter tires. The car is equipped with power-assisted steering and brakes.

The cabin is trimmed in beige vinyl accented with woodgrain trim on the dashboard and the radio surround. Factory equipment includes a power-adjustable front bench seat and an AM/FM radio. Instrumentation consists of a 120-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and a fuel-level gauge.

The 1976 Pontiac Grand Safari epitomizes that old school approach to making vehicles – lots of metal, lots of engine, and, well, lots of everything, really.
