1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302
The Mustang Boss 302 is a high-performance variant of the Ford Mustang originally produced by Ford in 1969 and 1970, alongside its more powerful sibling the Boss 429 Mustang. Ford revived the name for another two year production run in 2012 and 2013. It was produced for the Trans Am racing series.
This 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302 was finished from the factory in Grabber Orange (U) with a shaker hood scoop, color-keyed racing mirrors, Sport Slats rear window louvers, and front and rear spoilers.
The Boss 302 included a modified 302-cid V8 that produced 290 hp in addition to a handling suspension, and quicker steering. In order to meet the SCCA requirement for racing a production car, at least 6,500 Boss 302s had to be built. Ford cranked out 7,013 over two years, 6,319 of which were 1970 models.
This 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302 was optioned with chrome-finished 15″ Magnum 500-style wheels, which are mounted with Goodyear Polyglas GT F60-15 white-letter tires. Equipment includes power-assisted brakes and steering.
The interior was trimmed in Black Rhino Corinthian Vinyl from the factory and features high-back bucket seats, a folding rear bench, a woodgrain console, and a Philco AM radio. The Hurst shifter utilizes a T-handle knob. A two-spoke steering wheel frames instrumentation that includes a 120-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and gauges to monitor coolant temperature and fuel level.
The 1970 Mustang Boss 302 is a beautiful specimen coming from Ford, and it shows just how the iconic American brand has managed to maintain its relevance in the pony car market.
