1967 Mercedes Benz 600
The Mercedes-Benz 600 (W100) is a line of ultra-luxury cars produced by Daimler-Benz from 1963 to 1981. The forerunner of the modern Maybach marque, the Grosser Mercedes (“Grand Mercedes”) succeeded the Type 300d “Adenauer” as the company’s flagship model. It was positioned above the 300-series Mercedes-Benz W112 in price, amenities, and status. Its few competitors included British and American equivalents such as Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Lincoln Continental, Cadillac Series 75, and Imperial.
Generally, the short-wheelbase (SWB) models were designed to be owner-driven, whereas the long-wheelbase (LWB) and limousine models, often incorporating a central divider with power window, were intended for chauffeur operation.
Adjustable air suspension delivered excellent ride quality and sure handling over any road surface.
It is powered by a 6.3-litre ‘M100’ V8 with mechanical fuel injection, coupled to a four-speed automatic transmission.
This Mercedes-Benz 600 is an elegant luxury saloon, which presents in its original 1960s specification. While the paintwork has been refreshed in the past and the chrome has just been restored, it is believed to retain its complete original interior, meaning the next owner can sit quite literally where Harrison did. Benefiting from a fresh overhaul of its hydraulic comfort system, and with great attention to detail to ensure many finer points have been perfected, this wonderful ‘Grosse Mercedes’ is ready to delight its next owner and would be a fantastic ‘rock and roll’ exhibit at any classic car show.
The 600 is as much renowned for the fame of some owners as it is for it’s sophisticated and advanced engineering. Not only did the Pope own one, but also prominent celebrities such as Coco Chanel, Hugh Hefner, Elizabeth Taylor, John Lennon, George Harrison, Karen Carpenter, Jay Kay, Aristotle Onassis, Jack Nicholson, Ronnie Wood, Elvis Presley, Rowan Atkinson, Jay Leno and Jeremy Clarkson have all had one in the garage at some point!
At Aston Workshop, we’re used to dealing with a certain iconic Bond car, but did you know the Mercedes 600 was also featured by EON productions, most notably as transport for villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service and Diamonds Are Forever.
Drive away a legend!
