Vintage Trucks

1956 Chevrolet 3100 ‘Incendiary’

GM re-designed their truck line for the 2nd half of 1955, but sold both designs that year; the older design became known as the 1st series, and the newer design as the 2nd Series. Commercial trucks and various other heavy duty models were also available. Chevrolet and GMC named their new series independently.

The new Sweep Sight Windshield, as Chevrolet described their wraparound front window, was an industry first. The interiors were larger and more accommodating and these trucks offered automatic transmissions, power steering and many more accoutrements to make using a trunk more enjoyable and less work-like. While many of these mid-1950s Pickups have been modified, it’s more often than not those restored to an original flavor can capture the heart. Few things exude Americana like a classic pickup truck, artists producing many scenes with an old Pickup meandering down a snow covered road hauling home the family Christmas tree and pictures of construction sites where dozens of Pickups are gathered to get a job done. Today, vintage pickups are majorly popular and show few signs of losing their interest. Values continue to climb and, unlike so many other classics, people are inclined to drive and enjoy their vintage pickups.

Although the standard-line 1955-1956 Chevrolet Series 3100 pickup wasn’t in the class of the Chevrolet Cameo Carrier, it was more stylish than any that had gone before.

Attitudes about trucks were changing fast in the 1950s. Lots of people used them for double-duty; cargo hauling and personal transportation. An eye-catching truck could also promote a merchant’s services.

GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this 1956 Chevrolet 3100 Pickup. Although the 3100 Series pickup wasn’t in the class of the Cameo Carrier, they put much more of an emphasis on design and style than ever before. The market was shifting towards using trucks for more than just work and although the market was on a comeback, the overall population needed to use these for not only a utilitarian approach but also for personal transportation. The first opportunity of designing a truck that could fit both roles was in front of Chevy and they jumped on it before most manufacturers. With an eye-catching truck now in the market and with the capabilities needed to use it for more than just that, the newly designed Series 3100 pickup became most popular and was revolutionary from the cab forward. These vehicles not only grew popular in the civilian market but also for businesses alike for both work and promotional reasons.

This 1956 Chevy 3100 is a restomod sporting classic pickup style with the performance help of modern technology’s advantages. It shows well with fantastic chrome accenting the dark blue paint with flames. It’s powered by a rebuilt 5.7L V8 engine and 700R4 automatic transmission. It also features working air conditioning, power steering, power front disc brakes, Billet wheels, side exhaust, Panasonic stereo, Dakota Digital gauges, power windows, and much more! This is a really well done, professionally restored, restomod in a very desirable body style!

This beautifully restored stepside is typical of what the factory produced for the light truck buyer, who was usually a rural American farmer or the trades worker and used the truck for utilitarian purposes. Chevrolet Trucks-built for Americans who built America.
