1948 COE Ford Pickup
The Ford C series is a range of trucks that was assembled by Ford between 1957 and 1990. The first cab-over engine (COE) truck produced with a tilting cab by Ford, the C-series replaced the C-series COE variant of the F-series, produced since 1948. Produced as both a straight/rigid truck and a tractor, a wide range of versions of C-series was produced, ranging from Class 5 to Class 8 GVWR ratings. The C-series was also used as a basis for fire apparatus production.
In the world of classic Ford trucks collectors have left nothing behind. That includes early “Cab Over Engine” models — commonly known as COEs. With all the charming looks and vintage appeal of their smaller brethren, COEs also deliver a load of possibilities. One can turn one into a car hauler, restore it to original, or simply make a flashy show queen. Heck, one can do something altogether different, like this 1948 beauty, which is essentially a rat rod with modern underpinnings.
It’s got an unmistakable design that’s reminiscent of yesteryear, making a great initial impression. In addition to that, it’s been built upon the framework that includes the cop car’s 4.6L V8, giving the truck an appropriate amount of grunt to equal its style.
The cab was always rust / dent free. No signs of any repair work done to it. The cab is a 1948 Ford. The bed is form a 1947 Chevy 3/4 ton pick up. The rear fenders and running boards are custom made and solid as a rock. The seats are worn, but useable all leather, power, and heated. They sit very nice. All new wiring. All lights work as they should. The temp gauge in the dash quit working but there is another one under the dash. All other gauges work. The speedometer works but reads higher than you are going. No horn. It has vintage A/C and heat, but only the heat is hooked up and working at this time. The A/C parts are included. The paint is Hot Rod Black Satin, not just black primer. It is showing its age, but still very serviceable. I also have a brand new front bumper and brackets that come with it. The windows and vent windows work just fine. Glass is all old but in good shape. Could use some new weatherstripping. Even the original door locks still work.
We honestly can’t think of a truck we’d rather tool around town in than this one. Aside from the timeless style and modern mechanicals, what else can you drive that’s slammed to the ground yet still lets you tower over everyone else on the road?
