1946 Chevrolet Pickup

There are countless tales of classic cars and trucks receiving new life via parts from a completely different automobile.

Whether it’s an engine swap, a new platform, or a mix of a few different vehicles, project cars make for some of the greatest stories.

This 1946 Chevrolet pickup truck is something very different, however, and it’s a labor of love.

Just like Ford, the bowtie has been making trucks since forever, and over the decades, we’ve seen some incredible families born. No matter what family a Chevy truck belongs to, it seems, a proper restoration or custom job can do wonders when it comes to turning collectors’ interest into profit. And the 1946 Chevy example we have here is perfect proof of that.

This 1946 Chevrolet Pickup is powered by a factory 216ci inline-six paired to a 3-speed manual transmission. Alder’s Antique Autos rebuilt the engine including a new water pump, hoses, thermostat, pulleys, radiator, motor mounts, rear main seal, ignition wires, points, plugs, rotor, condenser, belts, clutch lever, and more. The carburetor was rebuilt at the same time. A transmission rebuild was also completed including new gears and a new clutch. Approximately two months ago this truck was given a general inspection, oil service, and brake adjustment.

In order to refurbish the suspension system new shocks, bushings, wheel bearings, and seals were installed. The stock braking system was retained and received a new master cylinder plus new cables, linings, and cylinders. The wood-lined bed is detailed in the gallery.

The previous owner elected to leave the original 15″ wheels and hub caps as-is, and installed a new set of Nankang light truck tires.

By and large the spartan cabin was not restored. A black vinyl bench seat remains in-place and the floors are protected with correct rubber mats.

The original three-spoke steering wheel shows patina on the metal central hub, and the 3-speed gearbox is controlled with a floor-mounted shifter.

The final product speaks for itself: the old Chevy truck looks as if nothing has changed.

Nice sounding Pickup!
